PA Authorities Threaten Action for Texas Hold'em (OPN Staff)
A warning from state police in Butler County, Pennsylvania is giving the jitters to poker enthusiasts across the county. Police threatened prosecution for playing Texas Hold'em games organized by a local company, which hosts games modeled after televised tournaments. Some parties responsible for coordinating the games have vowed to hold off until further instruction from regulators.
The state differentiates between games of chance and games of skill. Lottos, raffles and similar games are licensed as "small games of chance," but games of skill come under separate jurisdiction, and the legality of poker is somewhat ambiguous.
